Hello! I am ABE FUMIHIRO from a small fishing village in Miyagi, Japan. I graduated from Tohoku University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. After that, I had various jobs, including as an sound engineer and NPO employee. Since 2016, I have been working as a Japanese language teacher in Japan, and later received a master's degree in Global communication and Japanese language education from J.F. Oberlin University. My research interests are in Japanese dialects, particularly those in the Tohoku region. Of course, I also specialize in Japanese language education. I am also interested in the phonology of Japanese.
This September 2024, I started working as a Japanese language teacher at College of Science and Technology, Ningbo University.
I have traveled to more than 30 countries so far, and during my journeys, I began to explore languages and communication. While I have been exposed to many different languages, I have found that I tend to forget them when I leave a place or have fewer opportunities to use the language. I believe that learning and maintaining language skills in an environment with limited access to native or fluent speakers can be quite challenging. Through my journey experience, I have come to realize that it is important and essential to learn languages through real communication with native or fluent speakers, using both verbal and non-verbal means.
I believe that language studying/learning is not just for qualifications or exams, but an important means of connecting people. Although the time to study Japanese at university may be limited, I aspire to be a teacher as a native Japanese speaker, and a supporter who can assist students in learn Japanese. I will do my best to help our students if they have difficulties in learning Japanese. On the other hand, I hope that university students will learn and explore independently, rather than just being taught. As a new Chinese language learner myself, I also want to grow together with all of our students.
Let's embark on a journey of language communication together! Although living in China is a new experience for me, I look forward to spending this new chapter at the College of Science and Technology, Ningbo University with our students.
